Born and raised in Shanghai, China.
After graduating from high school, she set sail to New York for studying Musical Theater, a decision that shaped her into the performer she is today.
The Off-Broadway stage welcomed her with open arms, marking her debut as Malsoon in the moving musical "Comfort Women" at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater in Playwrights Horizons.
Fresh off the heels of the China premiere of "Spring Awakening," where she embodied Wendla, Shuyan continues to paint the stage with her presence. Her repertoire also boasts the enchanting portrayal of Tian in “Eastbound(NAMT/Village Theatre), Lizzie Borden in “LIZZIE”, Rapunzel in "Into the Woods." and Nell in“The Me Nobody Knows (54 Below Concert)”.
Shuyan's journey is a melody of Shanghai echoes harmonizing with Broadway tunes. From East to West, each performance is a chapter, and she can't wait to see what notes she hits next.
